Definitions used in this Privacy Notice
“Biogen” means Biogen MA, Inc. of 250 Binney Street, Cambridge, MA 02142, United States of America also referred to in this Privacy Notice as “we”, “us” and “our”.
“Data Protection Law” means any legislation, laws or regulations, protecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of persons and, in particular, their right to privacy, with regard to the processing of Personal Data.

“Personal Data” means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.
Scope of this Privacy Notice
The website thesparkstudy.com has been created by Biogen to answer questions you may have about Parkinson’s disease and eligibility for clinical studies. It enables you to answer questions and provide personal data in order that you can be contacted about possible participation in clinical trials on Parkinson’s disease. This Privacy Notice describes what Personal Data we need to collect about you if you decide to continue and provide us with this, how we use it and your rights in relation to this collection and use. You are under no obligation to provide this information but you will be unable to continue and participate in the evaluation of potential eligibility in the clinical research studies, should you decide not to.
If you wish to participate, you will need to read the following information carefully and provide your consent by clicking submit on the website. If you have contacted us by telephone, you will be asked to provide your consent orally. Without your consent, we will be unable to assess your eligibility to participate in the clinical research studies into Parkinson’s disease.
Information we collect and how we use it
BBK will, on Biogen’s behalf, collect and use your Personal Data to assess whether you are a suitable candidate for clinical research studies into Parkinson’s disease. BBK may also use your information to contact you about the results of the evaluation, to discuss your eligibility to participate and to give you more information about the clinical research studies themselves.
The Personal Data that we may collect about you includes:
- first and last name;
- date of birth and age group;
- contact details (such as telephone number, postal address and e-mail address);
- medical history including previous testing for Parkinson's disease or other related issues and any results; and
- other medical information including the diagnosis of any conditions, illnesses, diseases or other health issues or concerns, the ability to conduct certain activities or to engage in any hobbies.
BBK may collect this information directly from you.
If we determine you are an eligible candidate for a clinical trial into Parkinson’s disease, and you decide to participate, BBK will pass your personal data to a clinical trial site near to your home where you may partake in the clinical trial.
How we share your information and international transfers
Your Personal Data will be stored in a secure database hosted by BBK’s service provider at its data center is located in the USA.
As described above, BBK will also share your personal data with your selected clinical trial site, should you decide to partake in a clinical trial into Parkinson’s.
Biogen may also require BBK to disclose your Personal Data to third parties where Biogen considers it necessary for compliance with applicable laws, to protect the vital interests of any person, or where necessary to exercise, establish or defend Biogen’s legal rights.
Biogen will always use reasonable endeavours to ensure that your Personal Data is adequately protected when transferred to any third parties.
How we store information and your rights
We retain your information for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which your Personal Data is collected. BBK will store your personal data for a maximum period of 3 years.
Biogen maintains appropriate technical and organizational security measures to minimize the risk of unauthorized or unlawful disclosure or access to, or accidental or unlawful loss, destruction, alteration or damage to your Personal Data and requires BBK and all other parties who access your Personal Data also to put such measures into place.
